Heiwa Dori Shopping Park (Main street)
Asahikawafs pedestrian-only shopping park was the first project of itfs kind in Japan to make a city center pedestrian only. There are many interesting shops and businesses along the shopping park, ranging from large department stores to small, specialized shops and souvenir stores.

Illuminations (Asahikawa City Lights)
Asahikawa has a reputation as being a gcity of lightsh, and you can appreciate why if you take a stroll through the city in the evening time. During the wintertime, the illuminations reflect from the snow and ice, creating a real-life winter wonderland!

7 Jo gGreen Pathwayh
The 7 Jo green pathway starts at the Asahikawa civic hall and stretches down to Tokiwa park. It is a beautiful place to take a stroll any time of year, but perhaps best on a summer afternoon.

Tokiwa Park
Tokiwa Park is Asahikawafs oasis! Located in the center of the city, it makes a wonderful place for spending lazy Sunday afternoons in the summertime, or for spring and autumn strolls. There are rowing boats available for rent in the summertime, and Tokiwa park is one of the locations used for the Winter Festival.

Otokoyama Nature park (Dogtooth Violet and other flowers)
Otokoyama Nature park can be found on the outskirts of Asahikawa, and is most famous for the abundance of dogtooth violet flowers that bloom in spring. The park also boasts breathtaking views of the city.

Mihonrin (foreign tree forest)
Mihonrin forest was originally created in order to observe how well non-native trees grew in Hokkaidofs extreme climate. There are a huge number of different varieties of tree, and the forest was used as the backdrop for a famous novel, gHyotenh (freezing point).

Northern Wild Grass Garden
The vast wild grass garden is located in Asahiyama park, and has around 600 different varieties of grass.

Asahiyama Park
Asahiyama park lies to the east of Asahikawa, next to the famous Asahiyama Zoo. The park is famous for its cherry blossoms and dogtooth violets, and is very popular for gHanamih parties in the springtime when the 2,000 or so cherry trees are in full bloom.

Forest of the 21st Century
The forest contains a large campsite, along with forest study facilities that have a large amount of interesting information about the forest.

Kaguraoka Park
Conveniently close to the city, this delightful park is filled with cherry trees, spring elms, and water oak trees, and has the Chubetsu river running directly beside. It is a popular spot for family camping and barbeques in the summer time, and cross-country skiing in the wintertime.

Romantic Road (Tree tunnel and Churches)
The road that leads from Kaguraoka forest to the residential area of Midorigaoka is known as the gromantic roadh, because of the trees that line both sides of the street, and the two wedding chapels close by. In the summer time, the trees on either side of the road create a tunnel of green over the entire road.
