Mihonrin (Foreign tree specimen grove)
It takes about 10 minutes from the center of the city to reach the coniferous forest near the Biei river which is a Foreign tree specimen grove. During Meiji 31 (1898) trees from overseas where first planted here to observe its growth. It is one of the oldest manmade foreign tree groves in Japan. There are 52 kinds of tree, with 6,000 trees planted in about an 18ha area and continuing along the Biei River.
Coniferous trees such as straub pine, european larch, and red pine stand as if piercing heaven. Needless to say, it is beautiful in summer and autumn, but the Mihornin covered in winter white which will shake your heart at the sight of such clear beauty. Mihonrin is also known as a stage of "Hyoten" which is the best seller novel of Ayako Miura, a lot of tourists visit at Ayako Miura Memorial Literature Center in Mihonrin.
